Food simulants and real food – What do we know about the migration of PFAS from paper based food contact materials?

نویسندگان

چکیده

Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) can be found in food contact materials (FCMs). Therefore, migration into occurs contributes to human dietary exposure. Identification minimization of possible exposure-pathways these omnipresent potentially toxic chemicals are important mitigate health risks. Nonetheless, risk assessment procedures mostly limited considering the final PFAS concentrations without distinguishing contribution migration. Additionally, use simulants during tests misrepresent results. Critically assessing reported behaviors showed that (especially Tenax®) lead an underestimation exposure from FCMs. Reported migrated as well consumption data databases were used estimate exclusively FCMs considerably contribute consumers’ impacting health.

Modelling Migration from Paper into Food Simulants

Considerable amount of work has been devoted to the identification and quantification of contaminants in paper and paperboard for food packaging applications, particularly in papers containing recycled fibre. However, much less effort has been dedicated to the development of predictive migration models for such materials when used in contact with food. The work presented here has as main object...

Migration of Nonylphenols from Polymer Packaging Materials into Food Simulants

Votavová L., Dobiáš J., Voldřich M., Čížková H. (2009): Migration of nonylphenols from polymer packaging materials into food simulants. Czech J. Food Sci., 27: 293–299. p-Nonylphenol (NP) is widely used in many industrial applications (detergents, latex paints, pesticides, and plastics), and its presence in the environment has acquired an increasing concern since it was shown to be, besides its...

Updated evaluation of the migration of styrene monomer and oligomers from polystyrene food contact materials to foods and food simulants.

Due to the 2011 labelling of styrene monomer as "reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen" by the National Institutes of Health's National Toxicology Program (NTP) and the controversy over whether styrene oligomers mimic the physiological effects of estrogen, an updated review of styrene monomer and oligomers in food and food contact materials (FCMs) was performed. The concentrations of ...

Organic food: What we know (and do not know) about consumers

This paper reports on the latest contributions to over 20 years of research on organic food consumers. There is a general consensus in the literature on the reasons why people buy organic food. However, there is also a gap between consumers’ generally positive attitude toward organic food and their relatively low level of actual purchases. Product differentiation based on intangible features, s...

Functional effects of food: what do we know in children?

The knowledge base underpinning the setting of nutrient requirements for children and adolescents is not very secure. The advent of the concepts of optimal nutrition and functional foods has encouraged the possible use of functional effects as criteria for adequate nutrition in this age group. Target functions have been identified for growth development and differentiation and for behavioural a...
